CVs and Intro Videos

As with all jobs, you will need a CV to apply for teaching jobs in China. It is also highly recommended you record an intro video too. Worry not! We have broken down the essential information here for you.

CVs

Your CV should be clear with easily accessible information. In China, they want to find the information they need as quickly as possible. It is also recommended to just keep your CV to one page, and choose easy to read fonts.

Here is what to lay out on your CV in the order it should be:

  • Personal Information
    At the top, write your name, contact information (email, WeChat if you have it, mobile number) and your current location. (It is good to know if you are in or out of China!)

  • Objective/Personal Statement
    Write your objective, what you are looking for and what you can offer. Keep this short and sweet – no more than 3-4 sentences.

  • Work History
    Then go onto work history or relevant work. If you have not had a teaching job before that’s no problem; look at transferrable skills from your previous jobs and see if you can apply them to teaching. Are you organised? Good at talking to people? Creative? Any and all of these work! If you have teaching experience, this is really great. Make bullet points to state who you taught, what material, how you taught them.

  • Education
    Now let people know your degree, TEFL or other teaching qualifications, and anything else you think is relevant.

  • Skills
    Are you great with the MS Suite? Good at content creation? Worked with a particular curriculum? Awesome – include these on your skills list.

  • Other interests
    Just a little on your other interests is fine to add if there’s room on the page.

 

Intro Videos

The idea of filming an intro video feels extremely daunting, but it doesn’t have to be! Let us break it down for you.


First off:

  • Your video doesn’t need to be long – no more than 90 seconds

  • Dress smartly and look the part

  • It’s okay to record on your smartphone, but make sure video quality is good

  • Speak clearly and slowly

  • Have a nice, plain background

  • Smile and bring your personality


What to record:

Name, age and current location
Hello! I’m ___________ and I’m ________ years old. I’m from _____________ and currently living in _________________ .


Experience
I have _________ years teaching experience as a ______________ teacher. My main duties were ______________ .


New role
I’m looking for a position as a _____________ . This will further my experience and I’m ready for a new challenge.
